I’m SpaceCaptainOdd, a mixed-media artist working in pop-surreal / lowbrow territory—where cute characters and bright colour collide with a little chaos and discomfort. My work is built from layers: pours, splatter, scraping, sanding, collage elements, and bold cartoon linework. I like surfaces that look “lived in,” like they’ve been weathered, repaired, and repurposed, because that’s how memory and real life actually feel—messy, patched together, and still somehow vivid.
A lot of my pieces start with a simple joke, a “what if,” or a symbol that won’t leave me alone: a cubed cat, a crowned robot, a teddy-bear bomb, a floating island, a busted mask. I’m drawn to the tension between innocence and impact—how something adorable can carry weight, and howhumourr can be a survival tool rather than a distraction. Visually, I’m influenced by Saturday-morning cartoons, graffiti and street signage, old video games, and the kind of nostalgic icons that feel like emotional inventory items.
I’m self-taught and process-driven. I don’t chase perfection; I chase honesty. Sometimes accidents become the whole concept, and I follow them instead of covering them up.
Self-taught - Continuous studio practice.
