Mustapha Memphis Yawuza (b. 1991, Accra, Ghana) is a self-taught painter working in semi-abstract expressionist figuration. Working from his studio in Accra, Yawuza creates emotionally charged paintings that explore identity, human psychology, and the complexity of lived experience through distorted figurative forms, bold gestural mark-making, and dramatically shifting colour.
His practice draws on the natural environment and personal experience, channelling emotion into work that invites viewers to reconsider their own perspective. His most recent series, Perspectives (2025), comprises nine acrylic on canvas paintings that together form a complete psychological journey through the multiplicity of human experience.
Yawuza's work was presented internationally at Lillie ART Up 2025 in Béziers, France, through La Galerie Florence, and has been shown through group exhibitions and residencies in Accra. He is an emerging voice in contemporary African painting with a growing international presence.
