About Surabhi Gaikwad
Since my childhood I have been passionate about Art, I pursued this passion further and have made it as my Career which gives me great soul satisfaction. Art makes us more human, it helps us communicate in a different personal language. The Core of my Paintings is to create lyrical and abstract work which on the surface people can easily relate to. In my works I have dealt with contemporary figurative style depicting the shades of life, dreams, moods of moments. I portrayed the complexity of relationships imbued with joy, doubt ,anxiety, uncertainty, more like an ambiguous narrative. In my paintings I intend creating a mood using colour, sometimes it so happens that paint itself is the subject of my painting.I am totally involved with what can be done on the canvas by manipulation of paint, by dealing with the power of colour richness and textures created. The other key influence in my work is undoubtedly nature. I love to incorporate the exotic tropical flora which have such vibrant and bold captivating colours and shapes which automatically occupy space on my canvas. There is already a lot of misery in the world so I choose to paint images ,themes or topics which bring visual pleasure to the spectator. I concentrate on the depiction of Joy and the charm that nature has to offer and anyone cares to see it. I create colourful dreamscapes inhabited by silhouettes of Man and Woman. I want to bring nature closer to the observer. I take my lessons from Artists all over but Artist like Edgar Degas, Monet, Manet,Marc Chagall, Amrita Shergill, Anjolie Ela menon, Itzchak Tarkay, to name a few have influenced my work greatly. The medium I mainly work in is Oil and Acrylic because it suits my Temperament and Painting Style. The other mediums I work occasionally with is Water colours and Dry Pastels.
