Syeda Zahan is an Indian artist based in Assam, whose practice explores solitude, companionship, and psychological landscapes through restrained, symbolic imagery. Working primarily with a limited palette, her paintings often centre on trees, animals, and quiet domestic presences, using reduction as a means of emotional intensity.
With a background in literature and academic life, her visual language is informed by narrative sensitivity and an attentiveness to silence, memory, and lived experience. Rather than spectacle, her work privileges stillness and endurance—moments where presence is felt rather than declared. Zahan’s paintings reflect an interest in relationships that sustain life quietly: between humans and animals, between rootedness and movement, between the self and its surroundings.
