Sylvain Martin

I explore connection to others and the environment. Every relationship is the result of micro-interactions and shared moments. As with a work, each detail influences it over time, touches us and transforms us.
Inspired by “action painting”, I project paint intuitively. In the background, the blurred rendering of the painting in spray contrasts with the sharpness of liquid or high viscosity paint, thrown from my hands or my knives. This gives depth to the work, just as much as that sought in my relationships. Whatever the medium, there is a moment of tiny floating, during which the paint flies before landing randomly on the canvas, like a caring gesture from which, the next moment, a shared emotion is born.
Worried about the climate, I occasionally integrate objects as creative supports. I like to go beyond the framework of canvases to explore new textures, to highlight their uniqueness and to raise awareness of overconsumption.
Empathetic, full of hope, each work is an invitation to connect with oneself, with others and our environment.

Originally from Paris, Sylvain Martin came in Montreal in 2004. He worked for 15 years in management and marketing. Art first illuminated his life in music, he composed and launched in 2022, under the name Voyager, an electronic music album entitled Paris Montreal. Also, the amateur practice of photography has always been part of his life.
He discovered painting in 2020 during the pandemic. And…it’s love at first sight.
Self-taught, he organizes his life to quit his job and become a painter in 2022. In 2022, he participated in his first collective exhibition entitled “Portal” organized by RAW Canada at the Paradox Theater. Also, he begins to promote his work in galleries in Montreal at Hang’Art, and on online platforms.
