The realization of a gesture, in translation from mathematical representation to a particular stroke on paper is the base unit from which I construct my artworks. What is consistent from one stroke to the next is the line weight. What varies is the color, each stroke being its own single color, and its path which is uniquely its own. When strokes accumulate, a structure emerges, meaning the apparent structure arises from the ebb and flow of many individual strokes. When the count of strokes grows the work can take on a visual density associated with natural processes or living things, as well as the visual sensibility of impastoed paint.

I was born in 1956 in Minneapolis Minnesota, USA. Upon receiving a degree in painting I worked in museums and art schools for the next decade. My career took a turn when I discovered the then nascent field of computer animation in the early 1980s. Entirely self taught, I embarked on a new career that took me around the world, teaching and doing production. I spent extended periods living in Indonesia and Taiwan.
