Brussels-based artist Patrick Teugels (Dendermonde, b. 1960) is specialized in portraiture. At first glance his classical portraits looks like a conventional photo, but on closer inspection we start to notice that things are not quite as they seem. No Photorealism taken from one lens but a portrait painted as 'real' as possible. Carefully composed down to the smallest detail and without perspective as if we are looking at the person portrayed ourselves. Besides the classical portrait representation Teugels developed different strategies in portraiture of appearance and disappearance of the image.
Studied Visual arts, Painting (1978-84) at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp before to study conservation en restoration of paintings on canvas and panel at the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) where he was among other cultural artworks assistant conservation research “Lamb of God” Van Eyck brothers (1986, Ghent).
Worked under artist: Trees van Ravels (1958-1984), work permanent collection PMMK Ostend.
Since 1982 solo and group exhibitions & curatorship exhibitions other artists.
