In the heart of Shiraz, Iran, a city rich in history and culture, Shiva Mazloom discovered the power of art. Born into a family facing religious persecution and systemic oppression after the Iranian Revolution of 1979, Shiva lived in a world that silenced women and stifled ambition. Her father nurtured her passion for painting, enrolling her in watercolor classes as a child. For Shiva, art became her sanctuary—a means of escape and a voice in a world that sought to suppress her.
As a young woman in Iran, Shiva faced restrictions that denied her opportunities afforded to others. The oppression she endured, coupled with her family’s persecution, deeply shaped her artistic vision. Art became her way to process emotions and imagine a world beyond societal constraints. These struggles defined her introspective style, celebrated today for evoking emotion and telling deeply personal stories.
At the age of 20, Shiva made the difficult decision to leave her homeland and move to the United States, seeking creative freedom. There, she explored mixed media and taught herself abstract art.
