Thibaut researches how to control random feeds of numbers to create meaningful abstract compositions.
With the Atelier Aléatoire, he adds a new dimension to this body of work: introducing an interactive questionnaire to compose soul portraits of collectors and passer-by, at a specific moment, imprinting in it the very mood of its epoch. For the Paris Book Fair (Livre Paris) in 2017 he presented an installation with a large format printer where he invited 80 visitors to draw their portraits.
In Bangkok (2011,2015) he explored materials like fabric, glass, wood, and metal for his prints and light sculptures. He created a labyrinth of lights for Architect 2013 and the “ Ambulatory of the 5 Eléments” in a lounge designed by Christian Lacroix. A retrospective of his research was held at RCAC. He was a resident artist and lecturer at the Chulalongkorn University.
Thibaut now lives in Prague.
At film school in Paris (BA Film Direction, ESRA 1983), Thibaut Camdessus directed 3 short movies about art: Pollock, Klasen and Rocher. He won in 1992 and 1993 the Citère Grant to research animation technologies for Da Vinci’s anatomical sketches.
