I think of myself as a time catcher (or is it a light catcher?)
I like feeling the weight of the camera in my hand.
I am a photo taker much more than an image maker. I aspire to capture rather than conjure.
No disrespect to image making but it just doesn't thrill me quite as much as ambushing and capturing light in its natural habitat - time ..
.. watching, being patient, paying attention, waiting for the offering and accepting it. Once I got my reward I just need to tease the essence out of it , respecting what I've been offered nonetheless. Keeping the lifeline from my photo back to reality is essential to me, the pulse has to be there.
The randomness of a shot, the uniqueness of the captured moment is what fascinates me and defines the heart of photography for me.
I started a while ago, 40 years give or take, with black and white film so light and shade palette came first and to this day I retained some of black and white mentality looking for light and shade even in colour.
I was born in the land of Leo Tolstoy in the year of Hard Day's Night and moved to New Zealand 25 years ago.
