Tiphanie Spencer is a French-American painter known for her abstract paintings that respond to the world’s current events. Her portraits of society are packed with social commentary that capture the subconscious and psychological aspects of life through vivid interactions of shape, color and line. References to popular culture, historical, political and social events abound in the paintings, and issues of race, love, war, education and community influence her direction, bold use of color and brushstroke. Largely using acrylic and oil stick, Spencer’s paintings reflect her perspective as a woman and mother. They are personal and often sarcastic and humorous.
Spencer currently lives and works in Chicago. She founded White Color Productions in 2011, an art production company producing exhibitions, arts programming and special projects.
Spencer's studio is located in the Cornelia Arts Building. Her work is included in many private collections throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
