Tom Searles

I work primarily with acrylic, using expressive brushwork and layered colour to explore movement, atmosphere, and emotional presence. My paintings sit between abstraction and realism, allowing form to emerge through gesture rather than detail. Motion plays a central role in my practice — whether through the human figure, landscape, or suggestion of energy moving through space.

Influenced by classical composition, cinema, and contemporary abstraction, my work seeks to capture fleeting moments rather than fixed narratives. I am interested in how paint can convey balance, tension, and rhythm, inviting the viewer to pause and respond intuitively rather than analytically. Each piece is created as a one-of-a-kind original, focusing on mood, physicality, and the quiet emotional weight found within movement.
