Min-Hyauk Toyokawa

“I do not dream of the future. I embroider clumsy things upon aging ruins.”

Toyokawa is a visual artist who weaves the spiritual and physical decay, and the sense of lethargy that define South Korea in the 2020s, into a decadent tapestry.
Navigating the boundaries of graffiti, painting, and installation art, he dredges up the emotional dregs that society chooses to ignore.
In the cracks of an aging Korea, he expresses garbage, fragments, and the forgotten remnants of others.

His works are not assertions but laments — not eruptions, but submersions.
Disfigured memories, vaguely rendered subjects, and fluorescent colors chosen to simulate a forced sense of energy — these elements collide to metaphorically express the spirit of the age.
Toyokawa’s pieces evoke a subtle discomfort, and at times, are uncomfortably beautiful.

도요까와는 2020년대 대한민국이 겪는 영육의 몰락, 무기력의 정서를 데카당스적으로 직조하는 시각 예술가다.
그래피티, 회화, 설치미술의 경계를 넘나들며, 사회가 외면한 감정의 밑바닥을 끌어올린다.
늙은 대한민국의 틈새에서 그는 쓰레기와 파편, 누군가의 잊힌 것들을 표현한다.

그의 작품은 주장이 아닌 탄식이며 폭발이 아닌 침잠이다.
형체를 잃은 기억들, 흐릿하게 그려지는 피사체, '억지 텐션'을 내고자 선택한 형광색들이 뒤엉켜 하나의 시대정신을 은유한다.
도요까와의 작품들은 살짝 불쾌한 마음을 주되, 때론 불편할 만큼 아름답다.
