My artistic practice is an expression of thoughts and personal evaluations resulting from theoritical research and observation about the environment I am most familiar with: the cultural situation I grew in and human behaviours and attitudes in such environments. Being born in Malta, a staunchly Catholic Mediterranean island, where religion is not only about faith but finds its way also in politics, culture, traditions, way of life and personal decisions, it is thus almost inevitable for me to be drawn towards religious beliefs and customs as a source of inspiration for my artistic practice. My artistic process starts with an interest in exploring a specific argument or a quest to find out about certain issues. Thus, the work is the visual realization of the findings and points examined during my research process. Emanating from this research is the development of a collection of works which are related together in concept yet still individual in aesthetics and in the evaluation of issues. The selection of mediums is not prioritized in the development of a piece but is totally subordinate to the idea developed.
