Vasily Korf

I was born in Minsk, but spent my childhood in Bereza, a small town in Brest region, Belarus. Now I'm based in Minsk, where 5 years ago I established my Chinese Art Studio.

I was dreaming to become an artist since I remember myself. I've been deeply inspired by everything with the Eastern mood: movies, actors, pictures and so on. Despite the fact, I was telling my classmates that I'd become a president, I was drawing all the time.

One of my inspirations was the orthodox icon, which hung over my bed. So, I also desired to paint icons. Now it became true as at my free time I paint thangkas - a Tibetan Buddhist sacral paintings. No wonder, that I've chosen the Faculty of Philosophy to conceive the world deeply.

And as the major turning point of my life, in 2015 I attended the Chinese painting workshop. There I fell in love completely, so that I've decided to make it the way of my artistic expression.

Let me tell you more about Hsieh-i technique, which I currently use. It really remains me the meditation by its slow process, where each stroke is interlaced with breathing, and the brush seems like dancing. I've been exploring a lot by myself, but I also honor my teachers, Chinese and European, whose workshops and seminars I've attended.

I've held several personal exhibitions. To name a few:

"On the Tip of the Brush" held with several other artists at the Presidential Library, 2018;
"The Journey of a Thousand Miles" held in Mozir, Belarus, 2019;
"The Unity" held at the bakery, Minsk, 2021.
