Yanghui Qu

Born in Luoyang and based in Shenzhen, I am a professional architect and contemporary artist.

My practice is centered around my interdisciplinary studio, Vessel & Void (V&V), which operates at the intersection of Architectural Design, Contemporary Ink, Oriental aesthetics and Ancient Bronzeware Research. We seek a unified language of "Oriental Minimalism."

My practice can be categorized into three core pillars:

Architectural Space: V&V approaches architecture as the ultimate "Vessel." We specialize in minimalist residential and cultural designs that prioritize the harmonious dialogue between forms, materials,crafts, light and the "Void" of space.

Contemporary Ink (New Ink): My paintings are a two-dimensional extension of my architectural philosophy. Using structural logic rather than mere decoration, I deconstruct natural landscapes into tectonic forces and Qi (Spiritual Energy) on Xuan paper.

The Bronze & Artifacts Series: We explore the dialogue between historical relics and modern aesthetics, translating historical bronze"Vessels" into modern sculptural forms for contemporary interiors.

My inspiration stems from the silent architecture of nature—the way a mountain supports the sky, or the way light carves...

Received a Master's degree of Architecture in 2012.

Since 2017, I have been dedicated to a self-directed, intensive exploration of the fusion between traditional and contemporary Chinese ink painting.

My practice is rooted in the rigorous brushwork and spiritual 'bone' of the 10th-century Northern Landscape tradition (started by Jing Hao, Li Cheng, Fan Kuan). I have further refined my technique under the influence of the 'New Northern Landscape' movement, founded by contemporary master Shi Enzhao.

By integrating an architect’s structural perspective on space, I have developed a unique art philosophy: "Traditional Medium, Contemporary Vision, Creative Technique, Modern Spirit, Evolving Legacy." This system reinterprets classical tectonic forces through a contemporary lens, aiming to rebuild the monumental spirit of the landscape for the modern era.

Architectural Practice: Lead designer for multiple high-end residential and cultural projects in China.

Private Collections: Artworks held by private collectors and firms for corporate office and minimalist residential interior curation.
