I’m Victor Selin, an artist working in gold leaf on black paper. My work treats light like a material and darkness like a structure. I build images from strong value logic, clean geometry, and deliberate negative space, then let the surface do the talking through gilded texture, crisp edges, and controlled detail.
I’m drawn to symbols of identity, authority, and place, especially motifs connected to the American Southwest and Texas. I like tension: elegance paired with grit, precision paired with gesture, luxury paired with a wink. Each piece is designed to read from a distance as a bold graphic statement, and reward close viewing through the physical behavior of gold, burnish, and micro detail.
I live and work in the United States.
Self taught artist with ongoing independent study in gilding techniques, surface preparation, and composition. MS in Chemistry and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. My research background informs my interest in adhesion, texture, and light behavior.
