I trained as a film production designer and spent seven years working as an interior designer. Both are the same job — deciding what a space needs, what stays quiet and what carries the weight. I paint the same way.

The background and the foliage are laid in as flat planes, without shadow or depth. Only one thing in the picture is modelled: the flower. That is how the eye finds the centre without being told where to look.

Over those flat shapes runs a thin coloured line. It does not outline the form — it travels across it, and in places it leaves the edge altogether and goes on by itself. That line is the part of the work I care about most.

Each collection is built around a single colour that appears in every painting of the series, sometimes as a stroke along a leaf, sometimes as the whole ground.

I work in acrylic on canvas in Barcelona. These paintings are made to live in a room — to hold a wall and sit with the furniture around them.
