Alchemy of Light and the Invisible.
Vincent Duval, aka Vincent GILD, is a French visual artist born in 1974 and based in Burgundy, France.
Vincent GILD develops Ultrabrilliance, an artistic exploration in which matter becomes memory and imperfection becomes a human trace. Through painting and sculpture, he explores the tension between archaic matter and the precision of a technological world, questioning what remains profoundly human.
Oxidation carries the passage of time; copper becomes a living surface, while gold transforms alteration into light without erasing its scars. Relief, texture, shadow and reflection reveal the gesture, the accident and the imperfection of matter.
Between the archaic and the world to come, his work explores transformation, the living world and the human trace — where light transcends life.
The son of an industrial modeller, Vincent GILD grew up surrounded by workshops, developing an early fascination with the transformation of materials. After technical studies, he turned to music, collaborating with Nicolas Ker on works combining electronic and traditional instruments, before becoming assistant to sculptor Marian Fountain in Montmartre. This experience deepened his fascination with the alchemy of materials, from the patina of bronze to the raw energy of the artistic gesture.
In 2008, he left music to devote himself fully to visual art. Through an intuitive and experimental practice combining pigments, resins, oils and sculptural materials, he developed a distinctive language in which texture, imperfection, shadow and light become essential.
Influenced by artists such as Jean Fautrier, Hans Hartung and Jackson Pollock, GILD explores the tension between control and chance, the archaic and the contemporary, seeking the human trace within imperfection. His work has been exhibited in France and internationally and continues to explore matter as a living memory — where light transcends life.
