William Currie

Currie is an American artist who has lived in the Northeastern US, California, Washington DC, and now lives and works in Michigan. His paintings explore line and color and often merge semi-realistic with modern and abstract approaches. He uses multiple layers of paint to create texture and richness of tone. He experiments with ways to combine aspects of drawing and painting, sometimes painting pure abstracts to loosen up or explore new combinations of colors and textures. Figure paintings are developed in the studio from photos taken on the street while traveling, sketches from memory, or from charcoal or pastel studies drawn in sessions with live models.
Currie is a self-taught artist who has been drawing and painting since childhood. He draws and paints live models with groups of other artists in Michigan.

Currie is a self-taught artist who has been drawing and painting since childhood. He has studied original paintings first-hand in museums all over the world including Paris, Florence, Chicago and elsewhere. Major influences are Degas, Picasso, and Cezanne, as well as many present-day artists.
