Christine Bittremieux

It starts with a line, a horizontal line going from left to right across the canvas. From this line, layer by layer, stroke by stroke, a landscape grows. Not a landscape you should see trough a train window; I create new images. Wide lines, so wide they become expanses of color in themselves, they rebound in waves or surge through each other, as unpredictable as the pattern formed by dunes on the horizon or by a mountain range. Sometimes the lines cross the space with collective discipline, seemingly industrial or otherwise manipulated by man. Matte gives way to shiny and to transparant and with a richness of composition I want to draw the observer deep into the wide spaces of my work.
