ABOUT
EDUCATION
Xavier Carriles (b. 1968, Mexico) is a Mexican painter based between Asturias and Barcelona, Spain, where he has lived and worked for over 20 years.
Professionally active since the age of 20, he has developed over 35 years of continuous studio practice. Self-taught, he was fascinated from the beginning by abstract art and by the freedom of color and gesture — a fascination that remains at the core of his work.
Although of Mexican origin, the majority of his artistic production has taken place in Europe, deeply integrated into both cultures — Mexican and European — a duality that is undoubtedly reflected throughout his entire career as a painter.
"For me, art cannot be limited to the restrictions of the five senses, because art is not part of the physical world."
His current work moves between abstract and figurative abstraction: a personal language where everyday scenes, figures, bars, and interiors become a celebration of color, memory and human presence.
He lives and works between Mexico and Spain.
Professional Development
Self-taught painter, active professionally since 1988.
Over 30 years of continuous studio practice and experimentation with painting as a language.
Born in Mexico in 1968. Although of Mexican origin, the majority of my artistic production has developed in Europe. I have lived between Asturias and Barcelona, Spain for more than 20 years, deeply integrated into both Mexican and European cultures — a duality that defines my trajectory as a painter.
My recent work is focused on an international language: abstract and abstract-figurative painting, a form that has fascinated me since adolescence.
