Dongmei Wang

Dongmei Wang is a contemporary Chinese painter based in Portugal. Her practice is rooted in the refinement of traditional Chinese painting while engaging with contemporary themes of identity, memory, emotion, and cultural dialogue. Working primarily with classical silk painting techniques and Chinese ink methods, she reinterprets historic materials and philosophies through a distinctly modern visual language.
Her works often feature animals, botanical forms, and symbolic imagery that function as poetic metaphors for inner states and human experience. Through expressive brushwork, subtle composition, and the balance between spontaneity and precision, Wang creates paintings that evoke transformation, resilience, harmony, and spiritual presence.
Living between cultures has deeply shaped her artistic perspective. Drawing from her Chinese heritage and her experience in Europe, Wang’s practice bridges Eastern aesthetics with an international contemporary sensibility. Her paintings invite viewers into contemplative spaces where tradition and modernity meet in quiet dialogue.

Wang has exhibited internationally, including solo and group exhibitions in Russia and Portugal. Her solo exhibition Miao Tu Jin Wu was presented at the Moscow Oriental Art Gallery (2022–2023). She has also participated in Art Expo Algarve, Portugal (2025), and group exhibitions at the Moscow Oriental Museum, Moscow Oriental Art Gallery, and Moscow Chinese Cultural Center. In 2017, she co-authored the Russian edition of Fundamentals of Chinese Painting – Eighteen Lines with Nikita Strukov.
