Yvette Spowers

I am largely self taught and have been working in clay for over 25 years. I make vessels and sculptural work, drawing inspiration from the natural world, using simple techniques, tools, earthy tones or smoke to accentuate my work. I was born and grew up in Barbados in the West Indies, inspired in those early years by the passing show each year of Wedgewood Potteries. I've lived in many countries and started my work in clay apprenticed to William Attaway in Venice, Ca, after which I developed my style through life experience and a desire to be as close to nature as possible, keeping the clay raw and exploring it in its different states and stages.
