ABOUT
EDUCATION

Yvonne Cookson has developed an expressive style which incorporates powerful feelings and emotions that interact through the paint to convey people and the environment. Influenced by the artists; Frida Kahlo, Mark Rothko, John Hoyland, Frank Auerbach and Christopher Le Brun together with a firm belief in spirituality are the force behind her work. These expressionistic works of art resonate the themes of joy, energy and movement.

Visualising this spiritual world through an abstract pictorial language she strives to understand the essential elements in the creative process; imagination, intuition, freedom and sincerity. Her aim is to confidently express her imagination through technique, form, colour and texture in abstract, figurative and surreal forms.

Ribble Valley artist Yvonne Cookson has recently finished the second year of the BA Fine Art and Integrated Media degree at Blackburn University Centre.

Through gaining artistic confidence and knowledge under the superb guidance of Stephen Pickles and Richard Cross this inspired her to attend an expressive painting course at Central St. Martins College in London, taught by Polish artist and lecturer Ewa Gargulinska MA.
