Sasha Zaitseva

My practice explores how identity is shaped through rituals, symbols, and the objects that surround us. Through sculptural masks and ceremonial forms, I transform everyday materials into contemporary relics that question memory, social status, consumer culture, and collective belief.

Rooted in Ukrainian visual heritage, my work reinterprets traditional ceremonial objects—wreaths, embroidered textiles, and headscarves—alongside fashion labels, medical masks, synthetic flowers, toys, and other found materials. These combinations reveal how modern society continuously creates new symbols of belonging and value.

I see the mask as a space where the personal and the collective intersect. By shifting familiar objects from everyday life into ritual-like sculptures, I invite viewers to reflect on the invisible systems and identities we inherit, construct, and perform.
