Fulin Zhao

Zhao Fulin is an artist living in and working in Beijing. Her are evident her art. Drawing on diverse sources from minimalist Sol Lewitt and American realist Edward Hopper to contemporary artists such as Cindy Sheman, Peter Diog, and Dana Schutz, and architects Jean Nouvel and Tadao Ando, her work is characterized by rigorous logic and aesthetic depth as well as confidence, independence, expression, and character. "I believe art can be functional, but function alone is not enough. I'm always looking for some shift in space or image. At these moments I feel a sense of myself, a kind of emotional feedback. Although my paintings depict quiet, empty space, they are also concerned with creating emotional space. They combine the pursuit of individuality and some desire for personal or social change. In the past two years that singular perspective has been growing, breathing. This emerging space is projecting its own sensations, evolving into a more free state.
