Zsolt Maticska

Every painting I begin is an adventure: a journey whose destination I can never quite foresee. I may start with a clear idea, a particular mood or image in mind, but as the colours and shapes unfold, the painting often takes an unexpected turn. A single brushstroke can suggest a new possibility, drawing me towards something I had never imagined.
I love this quiet exchange between intention and discovery: the moments when I let go of my original plan and follow what is emerging on the canvas. Even when a painting is finished, I sometimes find something in it that surprises me. That sense of wonder is what keeps me painting, the possibility of discovering something I could only have found by making it.
