About The Artwork

Leda and the Swan is a popular theme of Renaissance art, showing a woman in a love act with a swan. Well known in paintings, very rare in sculpture. Furthermore, from my point of view, it is dominated by the classic aesthetics. My idea was to put into "Leda and the Swan" new fresh breath. My Leda is a beautiful woman resting on cushions. Classical. But not necessarily the swan. Industrial bird resembles the original from nature thanks to a slim neck, but the body writhes between the metal bars. What does the sculpture say? Situation is tense, while giving space to rest to the viewer at the same time, don't you think? The bronze sculpture was made in the traditional lost wax technique. Fully handmade.

I was born 1955 in a little town in the northern Poland (Lidzbark Warmiński), then moved together with parents to the South (Silesia). When I met my wife early 80s we moved to Oświecim, well known globally as Auschwitz. This is where I work and live as a sculptor. I create sculptures mainly in bronze and do all parts from the idea and design to casting or sanding alone, with my own hands.
