ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This body of work explores the relationship between painting and photography and at the same time re-creates a fictional historical legend for Southern Africa. It questions both the limits and the advantages of each medium as well as what effects are possible in their fusion. Using a Photoshop layering technique, new digital scenes were created and then inkjet printed onto archival Entrada paper. Oils, oil sticks, acrylics, spray paint and various other media were applied to the coated surface to produce the final, unique images.

I was born in Cape Town and studied Geology and Statistics at Cape Town University. I never actually practiced as a geologist and rather started to pursue my own creative work. Photography has been my main focus and over the past 25 years I have photographed in fifty countries. My photographs have been published in major publications worldwide, including National Geographic Magazine, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times Magazine and Photography magazine (UK). I have painted for over 15 years and have tried to merge my interest in photography with my painting.
