I have had a large format 'trade' magazine made by the Japanese International chamber of commerce in the early 60s, and it has been a rich source of imagery for collages. Having cut out this picture of a young woman bowling I have been looking for suitable animals to include. then in a charity shop in Penzance I discovered a book about tropical fish and then the rest just flowed the other day whilst collaging with a poet friend. She immediately thought it worked and so I found this old frame and painted the mount board purple (the photography has rendered it a bit too blue)The feeling of energy from the bowler and the serene indifference of the fish creates both a tension and a mystery. All materials are reused except paint and these works are made to honour animals. the grandiose black and gold frame has no glass, and came from a military print. Our local art auction house is awash with military prints as society moves away from celebrating war as a 'glorious' thing.
