About The Artwork

Twenty five porcelain black glazed floor tiles (20x20 cm) are both directed and broken randomly.Due to the specific breaking, a new smaller square in diamond shape is created in the square tile. The tiles are made of beige baking clay and an off-white colored anglobe has been applied for the adhesion of the black glaze. After processing the broken pieces of tiles, both the beige clay color and the off-white of the anglobe at the edges are clearly visible. Due to the processing, the black glaze has almost disappeared in some places. All pieces are returned to their original place. Then twenty five tiles are attached to a wooden panel. This creates two square patterns. By placing the tiles in diamond form on the wooden plate, the pattern of the small squares becomes dominant. Each piece of broken tile has a unique shape and a unique place in the work. Themes of Nico Kok such as: square, square patterns, diagonals, use of material properties, how is the work made, broken line and straight line, etc. are reflected in this work. The work is signed on the back. Video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC5sEPlsfjk
