Collage: Paper, Plastic, Photo, Fabric, Metal on Glass, Paper, Plastic, Soft (Yarn, Cotton, Fabric).
This work is a part of a large series of collages/Assemblages on real postage stamps.
I collect them from all over the world. I also collect tiny objects: artificial and organic.
The stamps are framed under magnifying-glass loupes which create a sense of mystery and displays them as a precious gem.
My body of work is based on images of the mass media. I use ready-made materials such as magazine clippings, old photographs, and reproductions. In the past years I have been focusing on collage/assemblage stamp series. The practice of collage is a mean to display representations of gender and to subvert the values and ideologies that lay in those images. This artistic technique enables to reveal the true nature of representations in the media, stereotypes of women and unrealistic standards. Stamp collections function as a major source of raw material with a vast and long historical background with social and political connotations. With that being said, it can also be a miniature, colorful, and inspiring host of wild possibilities, pleasure and amusement.
