Crocodile Collage

This collage is made exclusively of my own artwork, which I have deconstructed and toyed with, in this case for a long time, allowing it to develop into a more elaborate, more delicately and more humorously suggestive way of dealing with the critter. There's just enough crocodile here for identification to happen; everything else about how the picture crawls muscularly upwards creates and calls into question a novel crocodile situation. The collage is composed of different papers, from plain brown and bristol papers to textured Oaxacan hand-made paper; some portions are expressionistically painted; other sections are elaborate pencil and watercolor crayon detailing, whereas other layers make reference to academic drawing techniques. The composition of this tall work, as strong as it is from a distance, contains invitations to a wide variety of ways of engaging. "Crocodile" makes no secret of being patched together, a quality of consciousness and thinking-in-time that many of my works deal with. In this spirit I suggest that the work be mounted in a box frame so that its irregular edges are visible, although it could certainly be matted; a quarter-inch of the margins can be covered if so.
