ABOUT THE ARTWORK

An open airy feel permeates this piece, yet there's something blocky about it as well. These two opposing qualities - solid yet spacious, contained yet comprehensive - create a sense of tension, barely balancing. - - - SUBJECT MATTER: Biblical, Seasons, Windmill _____ *Abstract Placing*: I move objects, and objects move me. Each item - each pattern, shape, texture - carries its own history, its own spot in time. It wears this around its neck. This hidden history consists of layer upon layer of path and circumstance, built into objects like rings in a tree. Each of these objects holds a piece of a tale to tell, and I fit their bits together to create a new story - one of flow, order, and balance. PLEASE NOTE - Wall preview picture is shown framed/matted for illustration purposes; piece is unframed

ART, LIKE LIFE, HAPPENS BY ACCIDENT. A whiff of control; some semblance of steering. And belief of a firm grip. But we're grasping at the air beneath our feet. The truth is: we don't hold anything. It comes in bits and bobs, dashes and jots - brief glimpses, spaces, sliding out of sight. For truth, is to feel it slip away. And then to try to create it. - - - Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, & often both, my art reflects the intersection between logic and intuition, real and abstract, time and the timeless. - - - - - - - - - Steven Tannenbaum grew up in New Jersey, where he learned how to garden and defend himself. He now lives in Portland, Oregon, and his art is in public & private collections across the US, Israel, and England. You can find more of his work at:
