This piece is in coalition with "The Big Chop." Kaelon, the subject matter inspired me with all elements of this composition. Inspired by Kehinde Wiley's "Femme piquee par un serpent", the pose and direct gaze with the viewer is intended to create a sense of intimacy. This work is also meant to create thoughts on the perception of black men in America, as well as the troubling issue of toxic masculinity in both physical, mental and emotional terms. The foliage in the back is meant to read as soft and transparent, as is a part of Kaelon.

I am an Afro-Filipina visual artist interested in representing members of my own community through creative means. While attending Laguna College of Art and Design, I have been trained with both traditional and digital mediums. My artwork explores the humanism of BIPOC, my identity and the relationship between these truths. I intend for my work to raise discussion on social, racial, and cultural inequality through the use and re-appropriation of traditional European techniques.
