About The Artwork

After studying Literature, Art and Cinema at the Paris Diderot University followed by a specialization in Graphic design at l’École supérieure Estienne, Erwan Soyer works as an Artistic director, Illustrator and Visual artist since 2011, in Montpellier, South of France. From old used books or books destined to be thrown away after being scanned, His work questions the end of the paper as information support, explores new dimensions of reading, try to redefines the relations between background, form and context of a book. The notions of recovery and recycling serve as a point of departure for a reflection on the search for the initial form of “Book” object, the entanglement between the subject and the writing environment and explore the border between text and image. — http://erwan-soyer.tumblr.com/

erwan-soyer.tumblr.com - After studying at the Estienne Paris school, Erwan Soyer has been developing since 2010 a collage work mainly inspired by surrealist poetry and Land art, crossing multiple fields, themes and techniques. Using books that are used or intended to be thrown away after digitization, he questions the end of paper as a writing medium. He explores a technique of folds inspired by baroque art and geomorphology, working the paper material in a raw and organic way. A relationship between the materials used and the production environment serves as a starting point. All creations are handmade and assembled with bookbinding and bookmaking techniques on wood panels.
