About the Artist

Brenda Erickson

United States

Intuitively evolved, emerging artist. My art has advanced through practice, study and patience. I divide my time between two mediums, digital and encaustic collage where often the boundaries intersect in one artistic statement. Layers of imagery, line and pigment are my tools. Time invested in the mediums has been my teacher.

My current focus is on communication in the digital media age with particular attention to symbols that have emerged with new meaning and popularity in the common vernacular. Universal symbolism of everyday use contrasted with antiquated printed media portends to the loss of civility and distrust in the current misinformation moment. Using ASCII to Binary conversions of simple phrases layered with color symbolism and phrasing, I tell a contemporary tale of nationalism amid a desensitized public.
