ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I lived there for five years and I really wanted to create an artwork that would capture the colour, vibrancy and diversity of this (now gentrified) creative London hot spot. I've used a black and white photographic cut-out of a confident-looking young Iranian woman walking around the park carrying a ghetto blaster against a colourful impressionist park-life painting by Kasimir Malevich with the aim that it would portray the idea and deliver the message that self-liberation is possible though creative freedom, fashion and music. Dated and signed on the back.

Instagram: .domikaze I have been a creative person since as far back as my memory can take me… As a small child, although I could not put it into words, I was aware of having a sensibility towards usually small, detailed, beautiful and natural things whether animate or inanimate. I have always been curious and fascinated about art and nature, about patterns and textures, colours and shapes, about insects, plants, wood and stones and all that translated into an early interest in anything artistic: first by taking up drawing and painting and later through a free exploration of collage, mixed media and printing. I define myself as a ‘collage artist, second-hand shop explorer, skip scavenger and finder of things’ who likes being inspired by other creative people whether they define themselves as artists, makers, artisans or creators. I find inspiration in Islamic, Japanese, Chinese and Persian arts, crafts and calligraphy, in geometric and abstract art, arte povera, pop art, comics, science fiction, typography, graphic design and advertising before computers, furniture and packaging design and in avant-garde movements like dadaism, surrealism, cubism, futurism and suprematism to name a few. In addition to this, I also find inspiration in found, misplaced and de-contextualized objects. My mission as an artist is not just to create beautiful artworks aesthetically pleasing but also to be thought-provoking and irreverent through playfulness.
