Lonely Dwelling - Limited Edition Giclee Print Collage

Limited edition photographic collage using old family photos and postcards from the 1930's as well as textural scans from 1970's gardening books. These works are created as places of contemplation and reverie. ~ Between World War I and World War II my Great, Great Aunts, (wealthy spinsters), travelled the world by sea. Their travel albums have been passed down to me and are full of tiny old photos and curious postcards from the many places they visited across Asia, through the Suez Canal to Europe. The ghostly, faded sepia photos of people and black and white landscapes sparked my 'Reverie; the state of being pleasantly lost in a thought, daydream or memory.' I pondered the fates of the people in the photos and what became of their memories? Do memories simply disappear when the person passes or are they stored somewhere? Perhaps in a garden, across a sea, in a quiet moment or in a jumble. Like a dream. The characters in my pieces, mostly solo or trios, are long gone from our world. Yet here they are now, re-imagined in an expansive, liminal, contemplative space. ~ Edition is of 15. This image is 40cm x 40cm and comes with 3.5cm of white space around the print.
