After finding a book of photos from the 1970s, I was inspired to create my own versions of the characters I saw, as they were all so familiar to me. I grew up in a Southern California beach community full of skateboarders and surfers. In these paintings/collages, I've blended my two strongest memories of the 1970s: the minimalism of the skateboarders and surfers with the saturated colors and graphic nature of 70s fashion. If I could add a scent, it would be my Strawberry Lip Smackers lip balm and Coppertone sunscreen. All my art is titled after song lyrics. Don't Stop Me Now, by Freddie Mercury, inspired the titles for this series of skate kids.
