- I am a post-traumatic artist, exploring identity, survival and hope. Through digital collage, photography, sketching and mixed media, I transform raw emotions into layered, expressive works. Guided by a human-centered perspective and a lifelong interest in psychology, I create not only to express myself but to challenge societal norms. My dream is to one day be able to tell myself: “Now, you are free.” Frida Why, the artistic name of Afroditi Gioti, is a contemporary artist based in Greece. Her work is deeply influenced by post-traumatic experience, using art as a way to process what cannot always be expressed in words. She transforms emotional wounds into layered, visual portraits that explore vulnerability, transformation, and acceptance. During a period of isolation, she began creating digital collages, layering photography with textures, fragments, and emotion. What started as a personal survival practice gradually evolved into her distinctive visual language. Her work is drawn to people — particularly women — and the quiet stories held in their faces and eyes. Women occupy a central place in her work, embodying both strength and softness, qualities to which she feels a deep connection. Today, Frida Why’s practice blends digital art, photography, and hand-made elements. As an experimentalist, she continually seeks her truth across different mediums. Each piece becomes an intimate emotional landscape, raw yet open, inviting viewers to recognize parts of themselves. For Frida Why, art is a dialogue between what is seen and what is felt, bridging the space between artist and audience.
