The strength of a woman is undeniable. Initially this started out as a portrait of a young friend I had that battled breast cancer...but it evolved into this emotionally abstract tribute to women, fighters, and survivors. Everyday its a battle against discrimination, misogyny, and repression. I make mixed media art, and since I tend to always be looking in - I find I'm most comfortable around & inspired by everything & everyone overlooked. I use basic materials to create an outlet - so I can expose myself - inside & out. My artwork is executed from an initial feeling or instinct - private to my journal & then without barriers or judgements they are executed. Its hard to plan what happens -its purely a divine & organic process, along with the accidental that make my art come to life. It becomes a representation of me & the fires burning within & all around us. Our lives in chaos. I work small - I consider my artwork intimate portraits - they are like found objects (gems) that are hard to find to buy because each piece is so unique & distressed - partly because of the recycled wood, partly because of the subject matter, and partly where my technique takes it. They might have screws, nails or holes...each piece is as rough & tough as the art on NYC streets. Artwork is on wood - varnish protected - and hand altered. Multilayered mixed media application - glazing - ink - acrylic - newsprint & cut paper. Artwork is original & is one-of-a kind - hand treated & executed by me. Wood used is recycled material & imperfect. Art contains imperfections/irregularities and has its own unique characteristics. All my artwork has nicks, scrapes & scratches with a weathered appearance. The wood is painted black. The artwork is ready-to-hang on any nail or screw & displayed at your discretion. A stand is not included for tabletop display. Hardware for hanging can be attached or sent unattached. (Watermark is not on the actual artwork.)

I am a Brooklyn born artist trying… attempting… to approach life and art with honesty – simplicity – and – humor. I earned my BFA in Illustration from NYC’s The School of Visual Arts, while living in the East Village in the 90’s. My artwork does express an abstract way of interpreting what might be mistaken for something else… while my non-traditional approach to painting is at odds with masters of fine art… but then again my work isn’t representative of technique – instead style – feeling – emotion – and self identification… along with sexuality and self discovery… political carnage and social compromise… all undertones evident throughout the evolution of my artwork… and myself. I use a variety of materials from newsprint and ink to pencil and acrylic paints, and even sandpaper… yes I destroy my artwork for a desired look… and then all collaged & pieced together. I make no apologies for my controversial pieces… integrating an unorthodox approach to basically what really is the fabric of society… all out there to see… so no need to be offended. It is all there layered among textures, utilizing typography, concept integration, and figurative language. I had the fortune as a young person to be around some of NY's coolest, cutting edge & creative minds – and I am finally spilling my guts after many years away from creating art. I hope to share some common methods from my time living in NY to evoke emotion, stir debate, or just provoke that element of thinking… all with mixed media and recycled material. I live and work in Brooklyn with my life partner, and I thank you for taking the time to read this and look at my art.
