About The Artwork

Porto is a sculptural city, a city of light and shadows (chiaroscuro), both in its natural geography and architecture. I tried to find a method for creating collage that reflected the depth and layering of the tones evident in Porto I chose to limit my materials to; paper, cork and a fine mesh. By using different layers of mesh I sought to build up a more sculptural form of collage. This series reflects the physical aspects of the city as well as more purely geometric/abstract patterns that echo the essence of depth and space. This piece is made only from different layers of the same fine mesh fabric to build up tone and shadow. It is based on a colonnaded walkway by a local beach. When the sun hits the concrete beams it creates a highly geometric pattern of light and shadow. This artwork comes professionally framed

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

The latest series, I am working on, involves using recycled leather cut-offs from the shoe making industry here in Portugal. The range of colours and surface finishes available creates a unique palette to work from. Each individual piece is cut using a "cookie cutter" knife, made from a hand-drawn template. My work has always explored the different layers and patterns behind everyday reality. Everything is a construction of different parts and elements. The visual world has underlying structures and patterns that combine to give us our perceived reality. My art seeks to reflect the connections and layering. A lot of my work involves creating collage. The act of cutting through a sheet of material reveals a window into another layer below. My work tries to create a sense of surface pattern, letting the eye roam over the picture plane, as well as creating a sense of depth and of space receding behind the surface.
