Ruth Collage

As an admirer of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, I filled the border of her portrait with found objects relating to her life. Amongst the many treasures are: a VMI pin, many women including an opera singer, a father caring for a child, a gavel, work out weights, worn pencils and mini legal books. The piece is made of all up cycled items primarily sewing buttons, ceramics and plastic toys. These once treasured possessions perhaps part of a collection, evoke personal connections. My fanciful concoctions are filled with humor and indulgence; nostalgia is there just below the whimsical surfaces. It is here that I probe the complex interplay between memory and the emotional resonance of objects.
