About The Artwork

This collection of work seeks to document a shared spirit of creativity, freedom, and self expression which is being explored through the very broad theme of music. For myself and for millions around the world, music serves as a key ingredient in our lives. Often it becomes an integral part in shaping our identity and further defining who we are, what we believe in, and how we see and experience the world. We all have our preferences for genres and styles, groups and artists, songs and lyrics. When we dig a little deeper and look a little broader, we can start to think about the vast range of movements and subcultures which have formed and evolved out of music. Often they can eventually infiltrate our society at a mainstream level, creating far-ranging impact and achieving a long lasting legacy. The formation of these movements, and subcultures are all fundamentally driven by the same desires: It’s the need to feel a part of something which is greater than ourselves; The need to express who you are; The need to connect with like-minded people and become a part of a shared experience; The need to be a part of this moment, right here, right now before it disappears; The need to feel a sense of belonging, that you are a part of this tribe and community of which you share this feeling; The need to feel unique, that this is a moment which belongs to your generation. It’s an experience which is completely emotional, ephemeral and in flux. The moment may be temporary, but its spirit can last a lifetime, embedding itself in our psyche and further playing an intrinsic role in shaping who we are.

MC Lupo is an melbourne based artist fuelled by an appetite to unite. His art brings together an evolving community of people, places and cultures, which blur boundaries, forge new connections and invite the viewer to revel in the energy, attitude and emotion that his work delivers. With influences absorbed from far and wide, much of his work stems from a focus on the spirit, creativity and rebellious attitude of youth culture. This energy infuses itself into the ongoing themes of life, death, identity, freedom and self expression which underly much of MC Lupo’s work. Drawing from the people, movements, sub cultures and generations of both past and present; the outcomes of his work looks to explore the collective spirit of who we are, where we’re going, and ultimately present a vision of joy, hope and belonging which unites us all.
