About the Artist

Dmitry O

Moldova

I am a self-taught artist and 3D artist from Moldova, with a lifelong fascination for form, texture and the character of natural materials.

My contemporary sculptures are created primarily from wood, often using reclaimed pieces, branches and irregular forms that would otherwise be discarded. Rather than forcing the material into a predetermined shape, I try to work with what the wood already offers — its natural curves, cracks, grain and imperfections.

My work explores the relationship between natural form and human intervention. I use carving, burning, cutting and hand-finishing to transform raw pieces of wood into contemporary sculptural objects. Some works are finished with natural oils, including tung oil, allowing the grain and character of the material to remain visible.

I am particularly interested in creating minimalist and organic sculptures where the material itself becomes part of the artistic expression. Each piece is handmade and unique, with its own natural structure and history.

Alongside sculpture, I have worked professionally as a 3D artist for many years. This experience has strongly influenced the way I see shape, volume, balance and composition, while working with physical wood brings a completely different and tactile dimension to my artistic practice.

My goal is to create quiet, contemporary pieces that connect natural materials with modern forms, giving discarded wood a new life as original artwork.
