About the work title:201207 y1 → 2012 07 yellow 1 Watermark 水印 During a blistering summer in recent years, I learned the Chinese watermark painting technique by mere coincidence. Since then I have become fascinated with this painting method which is so full of poetry and characterized by an extensive degree of freedom. This technique is actually quite simple and easy to master but it is constrained by the available physical space and technical factors. The artist needs great patience and a clear objective to be able to produce a meaningful work of art. The creator has to develop quick and precise motor skills and the creative process itself requires a slow deliberation through interplay of the mind and hands to achieve a satisfying outcome. The painting is preserved but the state of mind and perceptions differ with the flow of time and space each time the work is observed. This is one of the unique aesthetic features of abstract art. Since those blistering summer days, the writer has created numerous series of paintings which can be categorized into different periods based on the time of creation and evolving skills and techniques. The artist is hoping for an opportunity to present a more complete collection of works through other means for interested observers in the future.
