Contact us.Michael Zviagin (b. 1980) is a contemporary artist based in Herceg Novi, Montenegro.
His practice brings together drawing, painting, objects, texts, and independent artistic projects into a continuous exploration of form, memory, and presence. Most of his bodies of work belong to a larger, evolving structure — a metaphysical archive that has been developing over many years.
Within this archive, individual works function as documents, artifacts, fragments of lost canons, or traces of worlds existing somewhere between imagination and reality. This archival approach is reflected in the numbering of many works, emphasizing their role as part of an ongoing process of observation, documentation, and cataloguing rather than as isolated images.
Iconography plays an important role in Zviagin’s visual language. Drawing upon its compositional and symbolic structures, he employs iconographic elements not as religious references, but as universal tools for constructing images and organizing meaning. The figures that appear in his works are not portraits or characters, but temporary carriers of states, ideas, and forms of presence.
Zviagin regards himself less as a creator of closed narratives and more as a researcher and documentarian of processes. His work is concerned with the emergence of form, its temporary existence, and its gradual dissolution. Arising from networks of visual relationships, every structure exists only for a limited time before losing density and leaving behind traces of its former presence.
Regardless of medium, his works form an open system of observations on the changing nature of reality — an archive that does not preserve the past, but continuously documents the transformation of presence into memory, and memory into space.
