About The Artwork

Archie experienced hunger and abuse, a victim of illegal dog racing. He risked death, but luck gave him a second chance and unlike many others like him he was recovered and now lives in a family that adores him. His gaze is penetrating, you understand that every now and then he is clouded by painful and scary memories

My artistic work focuses mainly on the technique of charcoal. The depth and intensity that reaches this medium are unique. The subject merges with the material of which it is made, it comes out in a unique way, which leaves no room for different interpretations. As I compose a subject with charcoal, I see it physically emerging from the paper. Raw, from my hands imbued with its essence, it comes out of nowhere to enter the whole world, the flow of things and life. Before my eyes, which are only spectators, it is born from the darkness of charcoal and slowly shapes with its nature, recalling its rightful place in the world. The subject is always an animal. I love to represent their expressiveness. Animals are higher beings. Led by a supreme, strong, ancestral instinct. They are not corrupted by weaknesses, they do not know hypocrisy, they do not speak unnecessarily, they do not pretend, they do not deceive, they do not slander. I greatly admire them. I observe with wonder their dignity, even in moments of extreme precariousness, even when they are about to die. They do not beg, they fight to the end and then succumb in silence. They know much better than we do that death is an indissoluble part of existence. I also admire the way they choose to be happy and the way they have fun. I think they are great teachers of life and that it is a huge added value for every human being to be able to share their life together with an animal. I also work with pastel pencils and colored pencils, but my first love remains charcoal More on Instagram: cernobbyrobertart
